41st Annual CSVHFS Conference
July 26-29, 2007
San Antonio, TX
Omni Hotel
Invitation to Attend!
The Roadrunners Microwave Group (RMG) invites you to
attend the 41st Annual Central States VHF Society Conference, July 26-29, 2007, at the
Omni Hotel in San Antonio,
TX. Mark these dates on your calendar now, and watch this web site for details!
The idea of a VHF+ weak signal group in south central Texas was formalized by about two dozen like-minded hams as the RMG
in 1999. Although centered primarily in south central Texas, an area encompassing no less than eighteen 1° x 2° grids,
RMG has members from coast to coast and border to border. RMG has played no small role in the burgeoning activity on
frequencies from 222MHz through 10GHz in south central Texas. The annual springtime tropospheric propagation, covering
most of the southeast US, has allowed RMG members to capture several DX records on VHF+ bands. With a cadre of long-time
CSVHFS members within its ranks, RMG stands ready to carry this enthusiasm over and serve the CSVHFS membership at large
in the style to which it has become accustomed!
San Antonio is the most-visited city in Texas, the third-most visited state in the union. Known as a friendly, fun place
to visit even without the attraction of a great Central States conference, San Antonio presents an excellent opportunity
to kick back and enjoy a respite from "normal" life! Take advantage of the $87 room rate, 40% off the average price for
our rooms, which we locked in for the conference by signing a contract over two years in advance. This rate is available
for check-in on 23 July through check-out 1 August; come make a week of it! The Omni hotel is a class facility,
with one of few "Four Diamond" dining rooms in the country. According to the travel gurus, Four Diamonds beats Five
Stars. These folks have class!!
In addition to conference activities, there are myriad
local attractions to distract you. There are at least two caverns open to the public just minutes away
from San Antonio; the Alamo has it's own special place downtown, with Ripley's believe it or not, a wax museum, the river
walk and several other attractions just across the plaza from this famous old mission/fortress. There are old Spanish
missions, boat tours and dining on the river, mouth-watering tex-mex restaurants which will permanently ruin Taco Bell
for you, an I-max theater, shopping opportunities suitable either to challenge the deepest pockets or accommodate the
most sale-minded, western historical and cultural museums, and the possibility of river walk performances by some
nationally renowned musical groups. The problem we're having with our family program is how to limit the number of
activities available to a reasonable number!
Yes, San Antonio can be hot during the summer, but take it from a former Yankee (ND2X/5), we south Texans have mastered
the art of air conditioning beyond the wildest imagination! Note that temperatures and humidity were higher in
Bloomington, MN for the 2006 conference than they were in San Antonio for the week of the conference, so south Texas is
definitely survivable - HI! Y’all come on down to the 2007 CSVHFS conference and enjoy San Antonio!
Please check back to these website pages to watch the details unfold and, during the March-April timeframe, for
conference registration materials. You can make your
hotel reservations any time, the earlier the better; our block of 100
rooms can be expanded if enough folks make reservations early enough to catch additional open rooms! Once space at the
Omni is filled, you will find alternate arrangements to be quite expensive!
Our three requests to all interested people are:
1. Come and enjoy the event!
2. Present interesting talks and papers if you have something to share.
3. Be generous with your fellow attendees by helping us stock the Banquet Prize Table.
Come enjoy San Antonio in late July 2007!
